Pastor Kris Freeman is the Team Chaplain and director of media information
for the White House Blue Devils football program.
Kris is a 2001 graduate of Christian Training Institute and the
General Baptist L.A.M.P. with a degree in Pastoral Ministries. He is a 1996 graduate of Volunteer State College in Gallatin,
TN, with an A.S. Communications/Journalism. He is currently completing his B.A. in Corporate and Organizational Communication
at Western Kentucky University, scheduled for 2009.
A former sports and news editor with Gannett Inc., Freeman began working with the Blue Devils as a support staff volunteer
in 1997, keeping stats and charts for the state championship squad. This will be his 12th season and his roles now include
the development and maintenance of the team's website, the media contacts, information and story writing for the local
press, and this will be his fourth year as the Team Chaplain. Freeman is entering his 12th year on staff for White House football
altogether.
Since February 9, 2003, Freeman has been the
senior pastor of Pleasant Union General Baptist Church in Lewisburg, KY, and drives on Wednesday and Friday to be in White
House with the team. He is in his sixth year of pastoring at Pleasant Union after serving for four years at Halltown General
Baptist Church in Cottontown, his home church, as the youth and associate pastor.
"When I received the call to pastor in Kentucky, I had every intention of giving up my role to someone
closer to the kids and to the staff," Freeman said. "As I was packing my things from my former church office, the
phone rang. It was Coach Porter and he gave me a personal invitation to stay on board if I was willing to make the drive each
week.
"This has been a decision I have never regretted.
Sure, I would love to be closer to home when it comes to football and have easier access to the program and the kids. But
if there is some way I can be of help to these young men as they grow and mature during their football playing days, then
it is worth the sacrifice."
On Friday night, Kris
is in the press box with three other Blue Devil coaches where he operates a state-of-the-art play chart and stat program which
produces game results, stats and play-by-play flow charts in a matter of seconds. After the game, he returns to the fieldhouse
to check his work by breaking down film well into the morning hours. The website is then loaded and updated and stories are
submitted to local press, usually before Saturday morning ever begins.
On Wednesday of each game week, he closes practice in the afternoon with a voluntary devotional with those
players wishing to stay and participate.
Kris and
wife Jennifer have been married for 10 years and live in Lewisburg, KY, with their two children, Madison (6) and Noah (3).
He also serves as a member of the General Baptist Council of Associations and the Stinson Press National Publishing Board
in Poplar Bluff, MO. He has served as the president for two years of the General Baptist Ministers Conference and recently
worked as a communications consultant for General Baptists in the spring of 2008.
Jennifer is a Human Resources
representative for Logan Aluminum Inc. in Lewisburg, KY.
