Quotes from Greenbrier head coach Kirk Williams:

“We’ve got a lot of kids that have played a lot of football games that were hurt. We would never play a kid that was injured, but they have played with a lot of banged up kids and a lot of kids not able to play. Our young kids stepped up and did a great job the last few ball games and tonight was just one of those nights.”

“We faced a good football team. They had a great game tonight and we didn’t. That’s the bottom line. The first half, we couldn’t pick up a first down and they were. We couldn’t seem to stop them. All the credit goes to White House. They have a good football team and I think they have a great shot to go deep into the playoffs.”

“We knew we were going to have to throw the football tonight, and the credit goes to White House for being at the right place at the right time to make the pick, especially in the first quarter. That’s the way it goes; when you play a good football team, that will get you in trouble really quick and that’s what happened tonight.”

Quotes from White House head coach Jeff Porter:

“We were very efficient and a lot of emotion being Senior Night. With this senior class, they were very emotional and I thought they were ready to play. They played well early and took control of the game. To finish 9-1 is a great year but now our record is 0-0 and we are one of 32 teams and everybody has the same goal next week and that is to make it to the round of 16. That’s what we have to focus on now. We’re thankful for the first 10 games this year but now begin the stretch run that everybody dreams about.”

“Greenbrier made a commitment to pass and you can’t fault them for that. They thought that was their best chance to win the football game. They got some passes down the field, but we were fortunate to get the first one to go our way and it was like getting an extra possession. The thing it did was kicked the momentum to our side and that was huge.”

“For the most part we were efficient, but I don’t think our kicking game was as efficient tonight as it has been. We were 7-of-7 making extra points, but we missed a field goal, we didn’t get all our kickoffs in the end zone. They all don’t have to be in the end zone and we had too many kicks on the ground. Our punting game was not what it has been. I think the biggest concern coming out of tonight was that our biggest strength this year which has been our kicking game, tonight it was not as efficient as it has been.”

East Ridge is a team we don’t know a lot about and we will learn more about them in a hurry, but this is the first time our two schools have played. The most important thing is that we are home and they have to make the drive and we have the opportunity to get the home crowd in front of us. We have to take them one game at a time. The game this week is East Ridge and that’s all we are concerned about is giving us the best chance to win and coming up with a game plan for our kids to practice well and get in the mindset of preparing well. Our goal is to play our best game of the year next Friday night.”

“The crowd has really been a big factor this year especially the last three weeks and the previous two weeks on the road. Our crowd is a very knowledgeable crowd and they appreciate it when our kids play hard. No matter what has happened this year, some games we might not have played as well, but there is one common denominator this year and that is our kids have played hard and not let up and we have to do that again next Friday night.”

“We haven’t played four quarters yet and we’ll see how we can improve if we play four quarters. Defensively we were better tonight even though the box score may not show it, but a lot of those yards came late against some kids who got in and got some valuable experience.”

“I was excited for Brandon to get the run and for Brandon to get back on the field. I was excited for Tyler to get the extra point and Oscar to get to kick off. Tyler hasn’t missed one this year and Oscar kicked one into the end zone. Jacob Knight came in and made a big tackle and some freshmen got to see the field. I looked out there tonight and we had 80 kids dressed tonight and that’s definitely the best we have been all year. Maybe that’s a sign we are getting healthy, and I guarantee our kids will come out and play hard again next Friday night.”
