Quotes from White House head coach Jeff Porter:

Getting out early…

“Gossett’s kickoff put them on the 20 and then the three and out was huge. It really created a short field and then we caught the punt at the 50, so we were at about their 43 after the return to start the drive.”

Completely different type of game…

“We played better defensively and got some turnovers and all the turnovers were inside their territory which created a short field. You can’t put it into words how critical it is to have a short field in high school football and for the last two weeks our kids have done a good job.”

Not a single play in the second quarter on our side of the field…

“That pretty much sums it all up. I can’t remember a half of football where that happened in a long time, and the thing about it was we didn’t leave a lot of time on the clock. Coming out of the half and scoring in two plays was huge.”

“Our kids just had another really good week and they worked hard on the practice field and were able to transfer that to the field.”

Respectful of DeKalb’s situation…

“We talked about it all week. The decision to wear the white football jerseys tonight was their decision, the decision of this senior class. This is their football team. That is the way it is with every senior class here. The kids made a decision and we supported them 110 percent. I think was very mature and respectful decision.”

“The referees came up to me after the game and one guy said to me it was the cleanest, most sportsmanship-filled game he had ever been involved in. Our kids were very aware of the tragedy that happened to the football team and our student body was very aware of that and did a great job to raise money for it and they should be commended for that. With all that being said, there are still games to play and our job was to get through this week and our kids did a good job of getting to the practice field on Monday.”

Station Camp stakes change…

“The stakes are obviously much bigger. It was important in week nine, it allowed us to play at home this week. But the importance of week nine doesn’t compare to the importance of this game because the winner moves on and the loser goes home.”

Little things and fundamentals…

“It looked like that game was headed to overtime and it could have gone either way. We were fortunate to come out on top. Now a month later, here we are again.”

Wing-T and Station Camp’s team…

“They had over 400 yards against us in week nine and they are very strong defensively. I think Coach Hollingsworth probably has done the best job they have ever done as far as improving that football team as the year has gone along. They haven’t given up many points, have a strong kicking game, a great offense and a good defense and they do the things that allow you to advance come playoff time. The defense really takes the pressure off the offense and then they have a great kicking game on top of that and a great offense to go with it.”

Quarterfinals tough…

“There are only eight teams left and everyone is tough at this point. In 2005 we lost to a very good Notre Dame team in Chattanooga and in 2007 we lost to a good Pearl-Cohn team at home. Everyone is good when you get to this point and Station Camp is very strong. I just think it will be a game that is very hard fought on both sides. It was hard fought in week nine with sportsmanship by both teams. That’s the kind of effort I expect from both teams and when it is over, both teams are going to shake hands and one team is going to move on and one team is going to call it a good year.”

Seniors last game on this field…

“That pretty much sums it up. It’s an honor to get to play your last game on this field in a game like this, not all kids get that chance. This is the last time they will play on this field and it’s exciting to be a part of it. We only have one guarantee and that’s four days to practice and 48 minutes to play and we’re just thankful to have that chance and have to earn it again.”
